CrownPeak CMS is the only hosted content management service to have a complete API and complete plugins for the most popular developer tools. Crownpeak Customers have complete control over their CMS implementation.  Administrative users and developers can now manage templates, integrations and system configurations; including the ability to work on template redesigns while still using the CMS.

CrownPeak Templates

A CrownPeak "template" uses a collection of template files to define the input forms, preview and output views, and data processing for content stored in the CMS. Template files are typically HTML files with embedded CMS and VBScript code, but they can output other programming languages such as .NET, JSP and PHP.

In addition to the input and output template files, CrownPeak CMS offers many other template files to help provide hooks for custom functionality. These other template files are documented in our Administrator Guide and Developer Guide.

CrownPeak API

Most of CrownPeak CMS is configurable via the browser interface and through CrownPeak Desktop Connection. There are many times, however, when GUI based configuration and manipulation are not sufficient. 

To that end, CrownPeak has a full and open API to handle other event and formatting.  This API is also helpful in communicating with and integrating into external applications.

At CrownPeak, we recognize that Developers have favorite tools and methods for coding.  Our goal is to combine best-of-breed developer tools with the flexibility and power of the CrownPeak CMS development environment, so that developers can manage content templates using their development tool of choice.

CrownPeak Desktop Connection empowers the Developer to use his/her favorite development tool - whether it be Visual Studio, Eclipse, Dreamweaver or even text editors like TextPad - and automatically connect to their CrownPeak CMS account over the internet.  Once connected, Developers can work with their CrownPeak CMS templates in their familiar environment and automatically save the templates back to their CMS instance through a web services connection.  

A web site manager just needs to set the editor of choice as their default editor.   Then, editing any template, will automatically open the application and users can save their templates directly back into their CrownPeak account.
